The Ballarat Learning Centre (BLC) was established in 1993 by Dr Tony Cree to educate and assist students from the Ballarat district with their literacy skills. Soon after its establishment, Tony resumed his work with the Indigenous Community, having begun it some years before when he worked for a number of mining companies in Western Australia.
Today, Ballarat host after-school tutoring four nights a week, providing primary school aged children literacy and numeracy support. Children receive afternoon tea and in some cases, transport can even be arranged. We are enormously proud that over thirty years later, we are still providing learning support to the Wathaurong community and we have had several cases where we are now tutoring the children of former students.
In addition to Ballarat, we have also opened tutoring sessions in regional centres of Bairnsdale and Hamilton.
