The most recent NAPLAN testing recorded that 72.5% of Indigenous year 5 students in very remote areas needing additional support for reading. It has also been estimated that in some communities only 36% of families have access to books.
Our book distribution programs have been built on two principles: simply to get books into homes, and also include as much culturally relevant reading material as we can. Fostering a joy of reading at an early age is important and engaging children with stories that reflect their own experiences is crucial.
We work with educators and community groups in regional and remote communities in Northern Australia by providing literacy resources, and in particular our own Healthy Living Series. We hope you consider supporting our work, one-off or monthly online donations can be made using the form below.
