The Year 12 English students at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College in Victoria recently held a second-hand book sale, with all proceeds being donated to The Aboriginal Literacy Foundation.

The book sale was greatly assisted by Mr Amedeo Astorino, a year 12 English teacher at the school, who said the idea “came about as a way of celebrating National Literacy Week”. Staff and students were very supportive, donating and buying books.

Mr Astorino told ALF CEO David Perrin, “I have a passion for literature and reading, as do many of my students. I’m appalled at the idea that so many young Indigenous Australians don’t have access to books or a proper education”.

We were delighted to receive a $200 donation, which came from the proceeds of the book sale. This generous gift will help our our Books for Learning program deliver more books and resources to our young students. Thank you to Mr Astorino, and all the staff and students involved in the success of the book sale!
